Ladies and Gentlemen, judges and dear friends, good . My name is Eric. I am here to talk about my hobby. Talking about my hobby, nothing comes up to my mind except for one – swimming. I can’t imagine my life without swimming. It’s the most important entertainment and hobby for me. I have won a lot of medals but I overcame some difficulties to get this far. When I was in my second grade in elementary school, I was never a kid who likes to get wet in the water. It’s horrible for me to soak myself in the water at that time. I just didn’t know why I hated to get into the water. One day, my classmates asked me if I could swim or not and I said, “Nope, I can’t because I’m afraid of getting into the water.” At that moment, the other classmates didn’t encourage me, instead, they bursted out laughing. I was really embarrassed and angry. I’ve never felt so humiliated so I decided that I would prove to them one day. Since then, I practiced really hard and I even hired a personal trainer to help me overcome the fear of water. It took me a while to get rid of the fear. Under the good teaching of my swimming coach, I improved rapidly. I could even swim 100 rounds a time when others could only swim ten rounds at most. For that, I felt confident of swimming and so, I went to my very first swimming contest. When I stood on the edge of the pool, I was so nervous that I almost fell down into the pool. As the judge blew the whistle, I jumped into water and swam as fast as I could. Other swimmers tried hard to keep up with me but I still took the lead. I swam so fast and tried so hard, maybe too hard, I used all my strength at the last 10 meters. I fell to the bottom one from the top one. The result struck me badly but I am not a person who gets beaten easily. I practiced harder than before and the results were getting better and better. I did win some contests. And most important of all, I learned swimming because I want to prove to my classmates but in the end, I not only prove to them but also give myself a priceless present, I have a hobby and I do love it.
The more difficulties I get through, the more I love swimming. It brings me confidence and healthy body. And through the whole process, I know if I try my best and devote myself, I will definitely earn something. It might not be solid but it could be something more precious than the solid prize. Just like now, I may not win the prize but am not afraid to soak myself in the water because I already soak myself in swimming.
